Integration Ability proven Europe - wide

VISUS participates successfully in IHE Connectathon

Bochum, in June 2010 - Traditionally VISUS is involved in the initiative Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE). At the annual Connectathon the Bochum IT service provider demonstrates its systems integration capability and can further optimize the quality of the interfaces. At this year's 10th European IHE Connectathon there was an emphasis on the new profiles for the inter-sectoral communication based on XDS (Cross Enterprise Document Sharing). "We have again participated with a large development team and were able to successfully complete our tests for a number of profiles." the technical director Klaus Kleber says.

Overall, the participants have carried out 2250 interoperability tests during the five-day event in Bordeaux. Eighty profiles and 94 systems from 66 companies were tested in five domains, including radiology, cardiology, and IT infrastructure. The steadily increasing number of participants reflects the growing importance of interoperability of IT systems.

IHE is an initiative of doctors, administrators, IT industry experts and organizations such as RSNA, HIMSS and various X-ray companies. Originally formed in 1998 in the U.S., IHE initiatives have now established in Germany, France, Italy, Britain, Norway and Japan. "The initiative is committed to the improvement of technical information between different IT systems in medicine," says Kleber.

The data exchange is based on the established standards of DICOM and HL7 and applies them in a process-oriented perspective. How important the initiative is that is shown by the fact that for some years more and more hospitals in their calls for bids expressly require compliance with IHE profiles. "This shows the high acceptance of the initiative among the users of IT in health care. It is queried which IHE profiles are supported and which were shown on the Connectathons," says Kleber.

After VISUS has accompanied significantly the development of the IHE-Germany as a founding member, the company is currently among the first members and supporters of the new members of IHE-Europe organization.
