The general conditions relevant to the operation of hospitals remain very dynamic. The implementation of the DRG reimbursement system is leading to changes in the number of patients treated and to significantly increased competition. The measures introduced by the lawmaking authorities regarding integrated health care delivery across sector borders, as well as the development of new heath care provider structures ("MVZ" (Health Care Centers) etc.) are amplifying this effect. In the course of these changes, a functioning and stable network of referring physicians will therefore become a key competitive advantage. A dependable network of referring physicians and a strategic expansion of the interface to the referring physicians will facilitate the "control" and maintenance of patient volumes.

With this background in mind, the Ev. Stiftung Augusta in Bochum, Germany, has gone new ways and established a web portal for integrated communications with referring physicians. This integration platform offers the referring physician an individually configured combination of patient and non-patient related data. In this way, the referring physician optimizes his processes, saves time and money , and strengthens the loyalty of his patients. At the same time, he is treated with the respect given to an "equal partner". The hospital strengthens or increases the loyalty of the referring physicians, and can monitor, in a quantifiable way, how this loyalty changes over time. In addition, it reduces communications costs and enhances the hospital's image as a referring physician-friendly partner, without additional expenses.  ...
