IHE

IHE stands for Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise and is an international initiative of users and manufacturers in the health sector since 1998 with the goal to standardize and improve the interoperability between IT systems. IHE does so by a consistently focus on existing standards such as DICOM and HL7.

 

In addition to the international IHE organizations, the IHE Europe existed for some years. It has set a target on the establishment of IHE in Europe. IHE is also supported by numerous other organizations, such as radiological societies.

 

The representation of medical and administrative workflows is carried out via so called use cases. The technical framework describes the technical integration of applications in the IT systems and the use of IT standards in the IHE profiles.

 

At the regular international integration workshops (Connectathon) systems of different manufacturers on the basis of the defined profiles are subjected to integration testing. Herewith it is ensured that the interfaces match with each other and are ready for use in practice.

 

Thus, continuous implementation of the by the IHE described departmental and intersectoral processes is the basis for a manufacturer independent integration of various IT systems and thereby brings investment protection.

 

In principle VISUS is open with its products and solutions for the vendor independent connectivity and integration. Therefore VISUS actively supports the development of communication standards and is a member of the national and international organizations of the IHE.

 

Because of the complexity of the specified profiles by the IHE, it is useful to review in advance of the investment decision the actual supported processes and interfaces of all relevant vendors. Information about this will be given by the standardized IHE integration statements of the respective manufacturers as well as this website, as well as the  results website of the IHE-Connectathons. Any manufacturer, who officially commits to the IHE, should be able to provide such a document. Most providers also offer these for download.
