JiveX 5.8: Five reasons why you should update now

JiveX Service

Our latest PACS and HCM solutions offer a wealth of added value, particularly in clinical settings, as a comparison with Version 5.5 shows.

With Version 5.5, we fundamentally modernized the technical and security foundation of our product portfolio in early 2024. The new JiveX 5.8 release systematically builds on this and now sets the next major milestone: In terms of interoperability, AI-assisted reporting, workflow efficiency, as well as the security aspects, JiveX Enterprise PACS 5.8 and JiveX Healthcare Content Management (HCM) mark a noticeable leap in maturity, which pays off immediately in daily patient care.

What are the key advantages of Jive X 5.8.?

  1. Significantly faster to the findings: Prior toggling, mirrored tomosynthesis, and automatic selection of prior examinations
  2. EU AI Act-compliant AI integration: Transparent verification workflow without loss of physician control and without the need for renewed dictation
  3. Controlled communication & governance: Targeted automated routing in teleradiology (ConnectMT), HL7 URL share, and seamless WADO auditing
  4. Connected across locations: ISiK-Level 3 (Information Technology Systems in Hospitals) in productive end-to-end deployment with high performance for large volumes of data
  5. Connection to ePA 3.0: Seamless exchange of preliminary documents and findings with “ePA for everyone”

Fewer steps to the diagnosis

Diagnosis relies on quick comparisons, and JiveX 5.8 makes this noticeably easier. In mammography screening, the temporal progression is evident at a glance due to being able to switch quickly between the current mammogram and previous images (prior toggling), while the mirrored tomosynthesis view immediately highlights differences between the sides. Relevant prior images are now available more reliably: The same criteria used for hanging protocols to organize the images can now also be used for the automatic selection of prior examinations. The procedure from the image to the report is also shorter, as measured values and annotations can be transferred in just a few simple steps. In addition, there are numerous minor improvements that make the workday run more smoothly - ranging from spinal diagnostics to perfusion analysis.

AI that makes its mark in everyday diagnostic work

AI promises to lighten the workload, but in practice, caution often prevails: Who is responsible for an AI result, and how can one prevent unverified findings from entering into patient care? JiveX meets key requirements of the EU AI Act with a structured verification workflow that ensures radiologists remain in control. AI results are only made available to downstream systems after medical approval; their review status remains transparent and traceable throughout the entire process. Instead of requiring extra clicks, the workflow actually saves time: The radiologist can transfer approved measurement and AI values directly into the report without the need for repeat dictation.

Optimized patient and communication processes with HL7: Greater traceability, governance, and security

With JiveX 5.8, you gain greater control over external communication and approvals. Among other things, this is facilitated by URL sharing processes in which medical data or documents are stored centrally, with only the access path being transmitted. The HL7 standard protocol informs receiving systems about the availability.
This transforms simple dispatch into a controlled approval process: Access is managed via a secure session cookie instead of tokens in the URL, an enhanced login system with lockout management protects against unauthorized attempts, and approval types such as download limits can be configured. All active releases can be viewed centrally - and on mobile devices, if so desired.

The transmission of images has also become more targeted: Individual series, rather than the entire examinations, can now be forwarded via DICOM Mail or DICOM Send from JiveX Web. For teleradiological workflows – such as in the ConnectMT teleradiology network – this means fewer clicks, lower data volume, and faster forwarding. At the same time, transmission is more compliant with data protection regulations as only the series that are actually needed leave the facility.

Following the modernization of the security framework in Version 5.5, JiveX 5.8 offers more sophisticated role- and permission-based concepts in the AI environment, as well as audit-proof, fully complete logging of all access to DICOM data via the WADO interface as well as improved approval and status management. This improves auditability for data protection, compliance, and operator obligations. This makes the transition to JiveX 5.8 a leap forward in terms of future-proofing, also in terms of security.

Interoperability and data exchange across locations

After establishing a fundamental platform modernization including expanded features with version 5.5, JiveX 5.8 focuses on the productive end-to-end deployment in networked healthcare structures. This includes a cross-site, ISiK-compliant document exchange, which not least benefits from powerful search and workflow processes (MPI search, wildcard/parameter optimization, pagination of large hit lists, source filtering via ISiK Document Exchange Plus) and thus goes beyond standard ISiK functionalities. In combination, these features not only stabilize operations when handling large volumes of data, but also make the gematik standard truly suitable for everyday use in hospital information technology systems.

Connected to the ePA 3.0

Likewise, the connection to the electronic patient file 3.0 (ePA for everyone) contributes to cross-facility care: Relevant previous findings and letters can be viewed from the electronic file and imported into JiveX HCM, while own results are transferred back to the patient record. This ensures that findings are incorporated into the shared file system without any media discontinuity.
