VISUS building from the front

What started off as a university spin-off has now grown into an internationally renowned health IT company: Our founding idea has gained considerable momentum over the past 25 years.

In 2000, Jörg Holstein and Klaus Kleber founded VISUS Health IT GmbH as a spin-off from the University of Witten/Herdecke. JiveX Enterprise PACS was launched on the market in Germany in the same year. Together with their team, the two founders worked on technical innovations and soon found their first international partner in the Netherlands, a pioneer in digitization. In 2003, VISUS links the first interfaces to imaging modalities outside radiology in JiveX PACS at the Màxima Medisch Hospital in Eindhoven.

The product portfolio grew steadily in the following years: JiveX Mammography (2005) is both a precise and structured image management system for breast centers and screening units; JiveX ECG (2009) makes it possible to manage the display and diagnosis of cardiac activity digitally in PACS and display the data throughout the clinic using a viewer; JiveX Mobile and JiveX Web (2013) ensure that medical information can be available regardless of location. This is followed in 2014 by the innovative archive solution JiveX HCM . The Healthcare content management consolidates medical data and ensures seamless communication pathways within a single system. A milestone in networking between medical institutions was the founding of the Ruhr Teleradiology Network in 2011 (today called: connect MT), for which VISUS developed the technical platform. The move to the new company headquarters on the Bochum Health Campus in 2017 reflects the growth in all areas.

In 2019, VISUS participates in the KLAS Awards for the very first time and is instantly rewarded as being Europe's No. 1 in terms of PACS. In the years that followed, VISUS went on to become a serial winner of the coveted awards. Speaking of Europe: The sales network is expanding continuously, particularly in France, where VISUS has established its own direct sales organization. Back in the Netherlands, the "Twiin“ project is launched, enabling radiological image data from 75 hospitals to be shared via a nationwide central digital infrastructure. The integration of AI systems into the latest generation of JiveX Pacs, as well as the connectMT's AI marketplace and new interfaces to cloud storage, are the next steps to an increasingly digital future. In addition, VISUS is becoming even more international and is now active in more than 40 countries on four continents through its partners. Since 2021, VISUS has become part of the CompuGroup Medical (CGM)  – and, as part of a global health IT group, will be able to expand its reach even further in the future.
